Reflexology for Relaxation and Optimum Health

Welcome to Amatouch, where we believe in the transformative power of touch.

In the complex, dynamic journey that is life, it’s impossible for a psychological issue to exist without manifesting physically, and similarly, physical problems inevitably impact our psychological health. Gaining control over stress, tension and exhaustion is challenging.

We all live in a world where we are under continual and relentless pressure, much of it outside our control. Changing our environment is difficult. Even when it is desirable, it is not always possible. So, we learn to cope and adjust. However, every stressful situation has a cost – not least a lowered immune system and increased risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease.

Reflexology is concerned with the balance and movement of life force energy, also known as Qi. According to Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM), the Qi runs via the meridians (channels) that form an energetic web throughout our body. It nourishes and defends our body and health. This life force energy can be divided into Yin and Yang and can be in excess or in deficit.
It is through these channels that harmful energies linked to our lifestyle and environment access deeper regions in the body. The balance and unobstructed flow of the body’s life force energy is imperative for maintaining good health.

My holistic approach to wellness through reflexology and massage treatments is designed to relieve stress, promote relaxation, and empower you on your journey to optimal well-being.

Unwind with soothing treatments and experience the natural release of tension, enhanced immune function, and improved circulation. Through this treatment, I address not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes of physical, hormonal, and mental imbalances, allowing you to achieve a state of harmony and well-being.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient form of massage that focuses on the feet, hands, face and ears. The practice combines a form of acupressure and massage that can be traced back to ancient Egypt and China. American doctors used this technique widely in the early 1900s. Dr. William Fitzgerald developed a method of applying pressure on different parts of the body with his fingers and thumbs to help relieve pain in those areas. He called this “zone therapy.” Later, Eunice Ingham adjusted zone therapy on the feet only, which she called “reflexology.” In recent years, it has gained popularity in the West once again.
The theory and philosophy behind the practice is simple: different points on our feet and hands correspond to different organs in our bodies. By stimulating these points, we can aid the body’s natural healing process. Whereas the acupuncturist will insert needles into these energy pathways to stimulate and move the energy and the herbalist will use appropriate herbal remedies to do the same, the reflexologist relies primarily on the sensitivity and strength of the hands to manipulate and balance the life energy.

There are many different reflexology treatments available at spas and clinics worldwide. If you’re unsure of what kind of treatment would work best for you, it’s always good to talk to your doctor or holistic specialist before trying anything new.

These treatments can rebalance your energy, alleviate health conditions, improve pain management and promote a sense of well-being. Regular sessions can alleviate stress, bolster your immune system, enhance sleep quality, and improve digestion. It’s not just about relief; it’s about restoring your body’s natural harmony.

Foot Reflexology: A Path to Balance and Vitality

During a reflexology treatment, the energy pathways are assessed for blockages or other disturbances. I explore the consistency of the feet and detect the presence of thickened, spongy, hard or grainy deposits called crystals. These grainy deposits are believed to be calcium deposits that have settled beneath the skin surface at the nerve endings. They can cause congestion which can impede the blood circulation and removal of toxins in the body. These crystals can be broken down by reflexology and the residue removed by the lymph and blood circulatory system.
Practitioners believe that when these areas or foot reflex points are pressed or otherwise stimulated during a course of a treatment, it has a profound effect on the deeper organs and tissues of the body and the result is a relief from symptoms, like pain and congestion for example.
As a reflexologist, I utilise all the techniques of therapeutic healing massage and reflexology to obtain the desired effects of energy flow, body fluid movement and release of muscular contraction.

Facial Reflexology

Face reflexology is a form of massage therapy that focuses on the face. This precise therapy focuses on specific points on your face, linked to various systems in your body. By stimulating certain points, reflexology can relieve symptoms of different health conditions such as:
  • Headaches, migraines, insomnia, and neck pain.
  • Eye strain and blurred vision.
  • Sinus problems (allergies and sinus infections).
  • TMJ syndrome.
  • Stress and anxiety.

What Happens during Face Reflexology?

Unlike other forms of facial treatment, it does not necessarily require products or lotions, although a gentle oil enhances the experience. You will lie comfortably facing upwards, and I will begin with some gentle stroking movements before massaging the main reflex points around your eyes, nose, and mouth or ears. I may also apply some gentle pressure to areas under your eyes, around your cheekbones or on your scalp.
The treatment should be relaxing. You may experience some slight discomfort as, unlike a facial beauty session, reflexology strokes are explorative and deep resulting in toxins and tension being released from the body.
Facial reflexology treatments offer more than just healing. We can all wear a “social face mask” at times. Facial reflexology gives us the space to drop the mask that we use to protect our true self. Long-term, it promotes better self-esteem and true authenticity. Thanks to this soothing treatment you can face an important meeting, a public appearance, or simply the world, with greater confidence.
Regular sessions help reduce scars and wrinkles as well, they enhance your natural radiance. It’s a facial holistic therapy that allows you to relax deeply and that promotes overall well-being. This is as natural as it gets!

Relax and Rebalance with Amatouch Reflexology

Practised over thousands of years, reflexology has proven beneficial in helping people relax and reduce stress. One study found that reflexology reduced anxiety levels by thirty percent more effectively than a placebo. It has been increasingly used as an alternative therapy for people suffering from medical conditions associated with high-stress levels, including cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
The pressures of work, raising a family, planning for retirement, and other personal commitments are part of everyday life. Of course, it’s all too easy to let the pressures get to you – affecting your sleep pattern, energy levels and ultimately, your sense of balance in the world. It simply is not possible to switch off, rewind and reset at just the right moments – when we need it most …unless we learn to relax!
Foot and face reflexology is a way of helping restore the body’s natural balance and harmonise our systems back into a state of equilibrium called homeostasis. Studies have shown that finding those tender spots on our feet has a relaxing effect on the rest of our bodies, so foot massages are often used as part of relaxation techniques for athletes and sports people after an intense workout session.
Your hands, feet, face and ears act as keymaps for identifying and treating imbalances in all areas of your body, bringing peace and harmony and rejuvenating your mind, body and spirit.
