Touch Therapy - A Partnership in Wellness

Welcome to Amatouch, a sanctuary dedicated to wellness, relaxation, rejuvenation and healing. Touch therapy treatments, which include aromatherapy massage and reflexology, are guided by one mission – to help you feel better and live better.

Touch therapy is more than a service; it’s a holistic journey. The treatments are crafted to help you reach your wellness goals. I aim to bridge the gap between physical well-being and emotional balance.

Amatouch treatments are a gentle fusion of traditional knowledge and modern wisdom. Whether it’s a nurturing aromatherapy massage, empowering reflexology, or a combination of treatments, I believe in a personalised approach that addresses your unique needs.

Holistic Wellness

Wellness is a shared endeavour. As a seasoned massage therapist, aromatherapist, and reflexologist, I believe the best outcomes emerge when you actively participate in the process. As I guide you on this healing journey, your role is crucial. Your openness, commitment, and active participation in this process will determine the efficacy of the treatment.

You’re not just a recipient of care; you’re a partner in it. As you communicate with me, you are also recognising what your own body needs, what it responds to and how it relaxes – a valuable skill in this overly busy, distracting world.

The Therapeutic Relationship: A Bond of Trust

Our therapeutic relationship is rooted in respect, trust, and understanding. I value open communication, and your comfort and preferences are my utmost priority. I aim to cultivate a safe space that fosters healing and wellness.

Understanding the Healing Journey

Healing at Amatouch is a transformative process. It’s an exploration of your body’s needs, an understanding of stress signals, and an empowering journey towards balance and harmony. Each step you take towards wellness brings you closer to your most vital self and your optimal state of wellness.

What to Expect in Your Massage

Wondering what your first treatment might look like? Initially, I will gather information about your health, identifying any possible contra-indications. This helps me to design a customised treatment plan and ensure optimal care. I will take time to explain the course of the treatment and also check with the details you provided and if your GP’s consent is required (depending on your medical history). If you’re in good health, everything should progress.

I will then leave the room while you are changing. If you are getting a full body massage, you only keep your underwear on as you will be provided with towels for privacy. I assist you in getting comfortable on the massage table.

What Happens During A Massage or Reflexology Treatment?

The first thing that we tend to think of in massage and reflexology is pressure. Do you sometimes feel like shrinking away from a touch that’s too deep or fast? Do you ever feel frustrated because the technique feels too light or not specific enough? If you’ve never had a massage, you may not know what to expect. Please be assured that I can adjust pressure and technique to meet your needs. Feedback is important, so don’t shy away from letting me know what suits you.

The temperature in the room can be raised or lowered to your liking. If you are uncomfortable on the table, you can shift to another position or be supported with extra pillows. If you don’t like an oil or lotion, there is probably something else on hand that you would prefer.

During a session I use massage strokes such as: kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions with acupressure.

Why do I always feel tired and why does my stomach gurgle?

These are expected, even welcomed, during sessions because they are signs you are letting go of tension.

The usual sequence of techniques can be:

  • Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips
  • Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  • Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  • Acupressure: Press key points on the surface of the skin
  • Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
  • Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping
  • Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching
  • Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. I can apply massage with the hands, fingers, forearm or elbow.

These techniques target different tissues and help enhance the benefits of the massage.

During a reflexology treatment, I use the caterpillar finger walking technique and digital acupressure as well as massage strokes. If you prefer, and only when necessary, I may use a small stick or rounded ball to obtain the desired effects of energy flow, body fluid movement and release of muscular contraction.

Your Journey to Healing: Pain and Stress Relief

Physical pain, stress and anxieties all recede as you have your massage and in the time afterwards. It offers amazing, short-term relief. You may find that as you return to your normal activities, the chronic pain and tension come creeping back. Over a series of massage sessions, the positive effects of your massage will last for longer and the issues of pain and stress become less intense.

As you become more aware of your body and what triggers these problems, you will naturally adapt to create less strain. Over time, you may enjoy an increased sense of well-being and a heightened sense of relaxation.

What oils do you use in aromatherapy massage?

I use a variety of essential oils in our aromatherapy massages, carefully chosen for their therapeutic properties. I am happy to discuss and adjust these oils based on your preference and sensitivities.

Regular Sessions: The Key to Sustained Wellness

The journey to wellness is progressive. Continuity is crucial. Regular sessions not only help in stress reduction, improving circulation, and boosting immunity, but also result in a deeper sense of tranquillity and improved well-being. Over time, and with consistency, you will feel a heightened sense of relaxation and a greater sense of control over pain and stress.

Course of Treatments: A Worthy Investment

Investing in a course of treatments at Amatouch offers consistent care, steady progress and is a commitment to your health. It also delivers great value for your money. Regular treatments mean you save while securing your path to sustained wellness.

What if I'm ill on the day of my appointment?

If you’re unwell, particularly with a fever or infectious condition, it’s best to postpone your appointment. Your body needs energy to recover, and some people feel worse after a massage when they’re ill. Furthermore, it helps prevent the potential spread of infection.

Understanding the Healing Crisis

Post-massage, you might experience a ‘healing crisis’ where symptoms intensify before improving. This could include emotional reactions, tiredness, muscle aching, disturbed sleep, or heightened reactions. These represent a release of bodily tensions and could signify improved functioning. Remember, it’s a natural part of your healing journey.

Post-Treatment Care: The Holistic Approach

The Amatouch experience doesn’t end with a massage or a reflexology experience. Providing appropriate home care advice is a part of my holistic approach. It helps us to review progress and in turn improves well-being. It also allows clients to take a more proactive responsibility in the healing process that follows each treatment. Some recommendations may include:

  • Water intake
  • Sleeping pattern guidance
  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating guidance
  • How to reducing stress and improve relaxation
  • Breathing techniques
